  • The strength of the Department is its highly interdisciplinary orientation, which integrates the expertise and research tradition of four faculties (Biology and Biotechnology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Medicine and Psychology), together with three institutions: the Institute of Neuroinformatics, the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience and the International Graduate School of Neuroscience (IGSN) as well as the University Clinics.
  • The RDN provides a novel, integrative research platform, which includes the molecular, cellular, systems, cognitive and clinical neurosciences as well as computational brain sciences, and has thereby established a multidisciplinary strategy for the investigation of brain functions.
  • Within the RDN the research is mainly focused on four areas:
  • Sensory Systems
  • Learning and Memory
  • Brain Pathology
  • Applied Neuroscience
  • The strategy of the RDN to push back the boundaries of knowledge runs on three levels:
  • Creating appropriate structures and infrastructures for excellent neuroscience research
  • Engaging in collaborative synergies
  • Fostering the next generation of neuroscientists
